Résumé
La place consacrée aux problèmes de construction dans les manuels français du XIXe siècle montre une disparité frappante. En fait, il s’avère que la destination et la notion même de problème de construction géométrique sont radicalement différentes d’un manuel à l’autre. Cet article recense un certain nombre d’exemples caractéristiques de tels manuels. Pour chacun d’entre eux, l’analyse finit par dévoiler certaines des conceptions fondamentales de l’auteur sur la géométrie et son enseignement. Abstract The place dedicated to construction problems in 19th century French textbooks shows a striking disparity. In fact, it turns out that the destination, and the notion itself, of the geometrical construction problem is radically different from one textbook to another. This article surveys a certain number of characteristic examples of such textbooks. For each one of them, the analysis ends up un veiling some of the author’s fundamental conceptions about geometry and geometry teaching.
