Cet article pose la question de l’identité sociale d’un mathématicien au début du XIXe siècle à travers l’étude de la trajectoire biographique de Sylvestre-François Lacroix (1765-1843), qui fut à la fois un auteur reconnu de manuels scolaires, un membre de l’Académie des sciences et le premier professeur de calcul différentiel et intégral de la faculté des sciences de Paris. S’appuyant sur la production imprimée de Lacroix, ainsi que sur sa correspondance conservée à la Bibliothèque de l’Institut de France et sur les archives de l’Académie des sciences, l’article analyse la façon dont s’articulent pratiques de recherche et pratiques d’enseignement dans son parcours. Abstract This article investigates the social identity of a mathematician at the beginning of the 19th century through the study of the biographical trajectory of Sylvestre-François Lacroix (1765-1843). Lacroix was a recognized author of school textbooks, a member of the Académie des Sciences and the first professor of differential and integral calculus at the science faculty of Paris. Using the printed publications of Lacroix as well as his correspondence conserved at the Bibliothèque de l’Institut de France and the material in the archives of the Académie des Sciences, this article analyses the interaction of research practices and teaching practices throughout his career. Zusammenfassung Anhand seiner Biographie stellt dieser Beitrag die Frage nach der sozialen Identität eines Mathematikers am Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts, Sylvestre-François Lacroix (1765-1843), der gleichermaßen anerkannter Verfasser von Schulbüchern, Mitglied der Akademie der Wissenschaften und erster Professor für Differential- und Integralrechnung der wissenschaftlichen Fakultät von Paris war. Auf der Basis seiner gedruckten Werke sowie seiner in der Bibliothek des Institut de France und im Archiv der Akademie der Wissenschaften lagernden Korrespondenz wird hier untersucht, inwiefern sich seine Forschungs- und Lehrpraktiken mit seinem Werdegang vereinbaren. Resumen Este artículo plantea la cuestión de la identidad social de un matemático al principio del siglo XIX a través el estudio de la trayectoria biográfica de Sylvestre-François Lacroix (1765-1843), quien fue a la vez un autor reconocido de libros escolares, un miembro de la Academia de las ciencias y el primer profesor de cálculo diferencial e integral de la facultad de ciencias de Paris. Apoyándose en la producción imprimida de Lacroix, así como en su correspondencia conservada en la biblioteca del Instituto de France y en los archivos de la Academia de las ciencias, el artículo analiza cómo se articulan prácticas de investigación y prácticas de enseñanza a lo largo de su trayectoria.
