Résumé

Dans le présent article, l’auteur entend montrer que le recrutement de recenseurs français pour le Jahrbuch et le Zentralblatt durant la périodede l’Occupation combine des aspects tant politiques que scientifiques. En l’occurrence, environ une vingtaine de mathématiciens français – prisonniers de guerre ou non – ont travaillé pour ces journaux de recensions entre 1941 et 1944. Le recrutement en question a été organisé par le mathématicien nazi Harald Geppert, avec le soutien de Gaston Julia et Helmut Hasse, dans l’objectif de contrer les Mathematical Reviews créées en 1940. Ce fait, qui a été partiellement étudié par Reinhard Siegmund-Schultze, sera compris dans toute sa complexité. L’auteur de cet article vise en particulier cerner la variété des comportements adoptés par les recenseurs français dans ce projet de collaboration scientifique. Pour ce faire, nous étudierons finement leurtrajectoire sociale durant la période 1940-1944.

Abstract

In the present article, we intend to show that the recruitment of French reviewers for the Jahrbuch and the Zentralblatt during the German Occupation of France combines political and scientific aspects. Indeed, around twenty French mathematicians – prisoners of war or not – worked for these reviewing journals between 1941 and 1944. This recruitment was organized by the Nazi mathematician Harald Geppert, with the help of Helmut Hasse and Gaston Julia, in order to compete against the Mathematical Reviews which were created in 1940. This fact, which was partially studied by Reinhard Siegmund-Schultze in 1993, will be examined in all its complexity. In particular, we intend to describe the variety of behaviors adopted by French reviewers within this project of scientific collaboration, which was supported by the German occupation authorities. To this end, we will carefully describe their social trajectories during the period 1940-1944.
