Cet ouvrage retrace le voyage effectué par la numération indienne pour arriver en Occident latin après avoir traversé le Monde arabe. Il commence en Inde au Ve siècle avec la naissance de notre numération décimale de position pour s’achever au XVIIIe siècle au moment où le calcul écrit prend définitivement l’avantage sur le calcul avec les jetons.

Abstract

This work recounts the journey made by the Indian numeration to reach the Latin west after travelling through the Arab world. Beginning in India during the Vth century with the birth of our positional decimal numeration, it ends during the XVIIIth when the written calculation finally overcame the calculation with tokens.
